Obedience
With Xavi we also started obedience at the age of 8 weeks. We started the puppy course at KC Nijmegen and already in the first lesson was clear that he would do ANYTHING to get his cookie. He’s a very fast learner, has a lot of will to please (especially for a Ridgeback!) and he loves to be the best student of the class!
After passing the puppy course exam, we also did the Elementary Obedience (EG).
All the lessons he did great and then, on the day of his exam, we had 20cm of snow here. So I was already sure what the result would be, because I didn’t expect him to lay down in the snow for 2 minutes. He still is a Ridgeback!
But my expectations were wrong. Very, very wrong.
Xavi did excellent on all exercises and gained second place (107 points out of 110) from more then 20 combinations. We were so proud of him!!
This summer we will probably start with the Continued Elementary Obedience (VEG) with Xavi.

This was Xavi’s score list on the EG exam:

Team owner and dog 10
Behavior with other dogs 10
Sit and stay 10
Down and stay 10
Follow 9
Coming here + sit in front     10
Foot 8
Checking teeth 10
Standing 10
Feeling 10
Retrieving 10

Lure coursing
We once participated with Xavi on one of the coursing activities from our Ridgeback club (www.rrcn.nl) The first round, Xavi ran alone and finished his whole round (350 meter)! The second round he went together with Luna and they felt more like playing than chasing the lure! Xavi (and also Luna!) had a real great time during this coursing weekend, so we will surely participate again! (picture is taken bij Kika)

And a little movie, made by Roy (Luna's breeder), from Luna & Xavi's coursing round!

Agility
At the reunion of Xavi’s litter we had an introduction lesson of puppy-agility. Xavi (and we) had so much fun, we are pretty sure we want to do this with him when he is a little older. He’s a big boy and not as manoeuvrable as a Border Collie, so we will only train this for fun!

Show
Once in a while we go to a show with Xavi. He likes the showing and the attention and he seems to grow out very nice. In his development he’s a little later than his brothers and peers and needed some more time to score on the show, but now he’s really becoming a strong and beautiful male, so we will keep showing him and see what future brings!
